Located in the Montford Historical section of Asheville, North Carolina, this 24,000 square foot building was originally constructed in the early 1960’s as part of the Highland Hospital Campus and later was home to Mountain Area Hospice. After sitting unoccupied for several years, the building was in need of significant repairs and upgrades,
especially in terms of life safety and handicapped accessibility. Renovations began with the removal of the original elevator and elevator penthouse, allowing space on all 4 floors for installation of new mechanical equipment and up-to-date data and communications equipment. A new penthouse was constructed on the roof to house
additional mechanical equipment including a new cooling tower. Extensive demolition work, primarily on the ground floor, along with upgrading the existing building systems were completed in order to upgrade this facility. A new entrance and lobby were installed on the west side of the building. Six ADA compliant restrooms were added, as well as a new fire alarm system. A completely new kitchen, dining hall, and common area were completed on the ground floor. Beverly-Grant, Inc. was asked to join the project team shortly after the property was purchased in late 2008. Working with the owners, architects and engineers, Beverly-Grant, Inc. provided pre-construction
services through final project completion.
